Itraconazole is a Triazole antifungal agent that is prescribed to patients with fungal infections. Itraconazole inhibits the fungal cytochrome P450 Oxidase - -mediated synthesis of ergosterol. Itraconazole is a broad spectrum antifungal and prescribed for systemic infections such as aspergillosis, candidiasis and cryptococcosis where other antifungal drugs are inappropriate or ineffective. Itraconazole is used for the treatment of fungal infections in both HIV- and non-HIV-infected individuals.
